Step 2

Don’t worry too much about watering. Instead, focus on creating a nice environment for your plant to grow. When you’re growing indoors in an area with different lights and different temperatures, you need to take into account the local environment that your plants are in. In most cases, gardening is done between the morning hours and at night. So it’s a good idea to consider watering your plants during those times (usually around 4:00 pm).

How can a caffeinated beverage be made as healthy as possible?

A new study has just been published which aims at answering these questions by testing the effects of caffeinated green coffee beans on people’s health. The study was led by Dr. Eric Altshuler, a professor in the department of plant sciences at North Carolina State University, and it was published in the journal Cell Reports. 

He said: “We’ve been interested in green coffee beans because they’re high in chlorogenic acid, which is used to make dark chocolate taste good. We’ve been trying to figure out what the health benefits of green coffee and some other compounds are, and we wanted to see if this compound, chlorogenic acid, could be a potential target for combating cardiovascular diseases.”

Altshuler and his team tested the effects of green coffee beans on mice with three different heart conditions using special high-throughput “fluorescence imaging” techniques. Perhaps most interestingly, they found that green coffee bean supplementation improved cardiac function in all three conditions, suggesting it could be an effective way to improve heart health of patients with cardiovascular diseases. “We detected a number of metabolites in the circulation of mice taken after heart attacks. One metabolite was chlorogenic acid, and it increased,” he explained.

A New Study

“There are many compounds in coffee that have antioxidant properties, and chlorogenic acid has antioxidant properties as well. So maybe these compounds can protect the heart. “While it’s not clear if this might be a mechanism by which green coffee protects the heart, Altshuler pointed out that “the most common recognition of cardiovascular disease is atrial fibrillation, so we’re trying to understand why, if these compounds are effective in all three ways it might be due to their antioxidant activities.

The upshot is that the researchers think the compounds’ effects may be more physiological than pharmacological. They believe these compounds may have therapeutic potential as anti-inflammatory agents and antioxidants. “It’s very exciting,” Altshuler said. “This is one area where you could make a huge difference.” “It seems to be that compounds like green coffee, which is showing so much promise in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, are also protective against cancer,” he said. “We’ve just got to find out why.” 

The team is also working to understand how the compounds work in real life. But so far, they’ve not got a complete answer, and are hoping to find it by taking a closer look at natural products in the future.
