Vedic Culture: Bhagavad-Gita vs. Mahabharata

Mahabharata is the body and Gita is the soul; Or Mahabharata is the ocean, and Gita is depth. In this article, we will tackle issues concerning  the Bhagavad Gita and the Mahabharata. In their video “The Science of Karma“,Mr. Aditya Satsangi and Mr. Nilesh Oak discuss this very topic.

Why Bhagavad-gita?

Bhagavad-gita is a golden benchmark for judging whether the philosophy is right or wrong. Instead of believing everything from Bhagavad-gita, we try to think from the whole Veda. How practical is this proposition? Veda is Ocean of content, with thousands of samitas (compendium of sanathana dharma value statements).

Without expert guidance , Vedas are beyond cognition. To decipher the masterly texts, umpteen sub texts were written as infra- structure….. These are referred to as ‘brahmanas’. Wrongful interpretations have clouded the true essences of these Brahmanas… whence authentic sources are of paramount value.

To summarize, Vedas speak with a reference to the non- person or talk in a passive voice. Whereas Bhagavad-gita says, do it!

Bhagavad-Gita is important because of the following reasons:

  1. It’s the condensed essence of all Vedic wisdom. The Vedas, according to Shankaracharya, is a reservoir of water, the Mahabharata is a lotus that has sprouted in that water, and finally, the Gita is the fragrance of that lotus.
  2. The Gita covers five key subjects that are critical to comprehending life. What is this material nature? Specifically, the definition of time? What exactly is Karma? Who is the mastermind behind everything? Finally, who am I?
  3. Traditionally, rishis and munis were the guardians of Vedic knowledge. Meanwhile now, you’re much less likely to feel compelled to give up your material possessions and walk through the woods to pursue wisdom. Still, the Gita eliminated this requirement by making Arjuna a warrior and a householder who received Vedic knowledge.

Krishna and Arjuna

These two the principal characters of the master text ‘ Mahabharata’. Their interaction on the battlefield – kurukshetra, is the ‘Bhagavad Geetha’! An intense dialogue ensues, between the master strategist- krshn & his alter ego arjuna…. When Arjuna is confronted with the emotional quagmire of family conflict, he loses his equanimity. Thus krshn emboldens arjuna’s resolve with his true blue revelations.

So instead of wasting nearly 20 hours a day on unproductive smartphone activities, it is better to engage in music, dance, recreation game activities, and do Japa for a couple of hours each day. In everyday life, Karma exists. Japa spiritually stimulates the mind and leads to a deep meditative state. Manas meditation, vachak meditation, and kirtan meditation are all forms of Japa meditation. The mantra is recited within the mind during manas meditation. For more information about the Vedic Culture and Ayurveda, visit Organic Ayurveda Life!
