No matter what type of regimen you use, you should be consistent with it. For example, if you use toner in the morning and at night, you should use the same one for both days.

Vata Dosha

Therefore, they need to use a routine that will help them maintain hydration on their skin without drying it out too much.

Some of the critical ingredients for ayurvedic routines include oils like coconut, sesame, and jojoba oil; herbs like neem leaves, turmeric root, rose petals; and spices like cinnamon bark powder or bhringaraj. Honey is traditionally an essential ingredient for an ayurvedic routine but can be replaced with sugar in the case of someone with a Vata constitution.

Pitta Dosha

Pitta is the second most dominant Dosha in an individual’s constitution. Individuals that have Pitta Dosha are typically more prone to inflammation and heat in their body, skin, and mind. Therefore, they need to use a routine that will help them maintain coolness on their skin.

A routine for Pitta Dosha is a combination of a warm water cleanser and herbal oil massage. The pattern can be made at night before bed or in the morning after showering.

1. Cleansing: use a warm water cleanser (such as an herbal tea made from mint leaves) to remove any impurities from the body and massage with herbal oil or turmeric-based moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated and protected.

2. Massage: massage the areas of concern with your choice of herbal oil (clary sage, lavender, or geranium) or mashed avocado.

3. Apply the desired amount of moisturizer to the face and neck using your hands or a pouf; for oily skin, massage in a bit of glycerin before applying moisturizer to make your skin extra-hydrated. 

4. Moisturizer: apply a moisturizer with SPF to the face and neck (with a sunscreen if you’re outside) and any other areas that need extra hydration, such as the chest and arms.

Kapha Dosha

Kapha Dosha is a dosha, or constitutional type, in Ayurveda, which means it is characterized by watery secretions from the body and tends to be slow-moving. The key to the Kapha skincare routine is to balance oil production with oil absorption. An abnormal accumulation of fat characterizes Kapha, and these accumulations often take the form of white spots on the skin.

Rinsing the skin with cool water after cleansing with rose water can help calm and hydrate the skin. The Kapha skincare routine should include a treatment of an oil cleanser to balance oil production and absorption. Apply a light layer of oil cleanser on the skin and then rinse with lukewarm water. For dryness, the next step is to use an oil-free moisturizer.
